Hello everyone,

do consultants have a way to earn additional money as a small side job by leveraging their skills? (for example during weekends)

Regards,

K

Hi Kha,

That's a really subjective question. It totally depends on what you want to do and how. You could maybe pursue freelance consulting and sell your services on Fiverr, Upwork, etc. Alternatively, you could also run your own consulting website and create videos on consulting.

Hope this helps!

Also think it depends on your contract....usually there is some clause around any consulting work you do outside of work is prohibited or the firm will own it.

Make sure you read your contracts line for line.

Hey Kha,

It is a double edged sword here. You can if your company allows it (mostly they won't care what you do in your free time). Just make sure you are not engaging with any of the accounts of your organisation, that will violate the "competition clause". Every company has this.

Secondly, having a full time job in consulting will be taxing enough. So I wouldn't recommend having a another freelance gig along with your full time role.

Thank you for your answer! Indeed, taxation is something to consider (I live in one of the highest tax rate countries in the EU haha)

Hi Kha,

I think Chet meant physically and mentally draining by the word 'Taxing'. So, if you're a management consultant, it'll be extremely tiring for you as it is.

Kha, it's 100% possible but depends on the contract you have with your employer. I'll start talking a lot more about creating a side gig on my blog soon. I run my side gig and have a leadership role in industry as well. Know plenty of people who did the same even when I was in consulting.
