How serious is a background check? Do consulting firms really do that? How does is look like and how far can I go with my things I include?

Consulting firms are extremely stringent with background checks. Everything that you show on your CV, your previous experience, the department and teams you worked with and criminal history, references check, address verification, educational background, etc. Background checks are just an assurance for the firms that you're not a fraud and that you do not do anything that'll hurt the company's image.

Hi Andy,

Yes, Background Checks are taken seriously. However, this may depend on the region that you work in.

Working as a Management Consultant is gonna disclose a heavy load of confidential clientele information.

Employers must make sure that you do not take advantage of such confidential information disclosed to you (seen as an act of fraud).

They also want to make sure that you were not involved in any unethical practices.

Cheers.

Hey Andy,

Yes background checks are taken extremely seriously. The recruiter will just google your name and check everything that comes up, your LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. The kind of things you can include is highly subjective.

For instance, for highly sensitive topics like politics and religion it is better to keep a low profile. You never know how the other person might perceive it. For your social excerpts, showing pics like getting drunk and dancing at a club might not give out the right kind of vibes.

However pics showing you riding a horse, surfing, mountain climbing are actually good, because they show you to be an adventurous person.

Hope this helps!
