As a rough rule: The bigger the firm the less likely you are required to speak the local language, because English will be the main working language.

However, there are many exceptions to the rule and it is important to read a typical job ad from the firm (even if you dont apply through the job ad, but through your network) and if it does not indicate anything: talk to an hr person.

Usually you will be required to speak the local language. But, there are always exceptions to the rule so I recommend checking with your local HR. That also a great way to get in touch with HR and to ask them some more questions about the application process.

It is also important to not only see the barriers with a foreign language you are not very good at. This could also be a unique selling point- sometimes this gives you a head start to other applicants if you have a existing speaking base in the foreign language
