Hello everyone

I want to get into strategy consulting and I have a BBA LLB (hons) degree. I am confused about the entry level positions that are available and how relevant is a BBA LLB for strategy consulting?

i would really appreciate your advice. Thank you in advance.

Hi Siddhant,

Getting into strategy consulting directly after a BBA LLB at a tier 1 firm maybe difficult in a country like India. You can try getting into the smaller boutique firms or Big4s into other departments. However, getting intopinto Big4s  and even switching thereafter may not be a piece of cake. As per firms policies you maybe able to shift after a year or two (my firm has an 18months lock in) into another department, that too if you've been lucky enough to work with the strategy arm and have another partner want you as part of his team. Hence I would recommend joining a boutique strategy consulting, getting an MBA and then trying for top tier firms strategy consulting.

With this, I'd also say it doesn't harm to apply and see if you can make it even to a top tier firm, especially if you have a referal. In that case, ensure your CV already had those 'spikes' to grab the chance you have after getting your CV to the HR. There on, your case interview prep counts, once you get to the interview stage. Be sure not to take that lightly and maybe capatalise on your legal knowledge to differentiate yourself.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Tushna

Hi Tushna

Thank you for such a detailed and comprehensive response.

I agree, it might be a little difficult to straight away apply for the big 4. I would definitely act on your advice and maybe start aiming for the boutique strategy consulting firms.

Could you name a few good boutique firms ?

Could you also please elaborate a little on what you meant by “spikes” in my CV via any example ?

Looking forward to your response on this.

Thank you
