Hi! Firstly, a great forum you have here - very interesting people and questions!
So I am currently writing a blog about the current corona-virus situation and I wanted to bring in the "Corona-effect worldwide 100 years ago."

What are your thoughts first on the economics influence worldwide and secondly how it could have been handled back then.  (e.g China not having a communist government, leading in lacks of the regulations they have today)

Happy to read some interesting thoughts!!

Hey!

Very interesting question you got there.

So here is my 2 cents for the first question. I think the consequences for the economies around the world will be terrible. Not many businesses and SME can sustain not having an inflow of income for several months and the quarantine, currently one month in my country, is probably going to be prolonged. So unless the state intervenes, many bankruptcies are on the way. But let's assume states do intervene and provide an allowance for example to companies (and maybe to individuals as well), at least in Europe. The most optimistic approximation I have seen for the vaccine to be released was in a year. So that makes a lot of money to spend for the member states and a lot of debt. Now, this debt can be dangerous and just like for the sovereign debt crisis in Europe a few years ago, we may need someone at the BCE to "do whatever it takes" to save the Euro again.

For the second part of your question, a good starting point for your research may be to compare it to the Spanish Flu that devastated Europe and see how it was handled back then, taking into account the contagiousness of the two diseases.

It could even be that back then the virus would've had less of an epidemic effect since 100 years ago not consultants were flying around the world and spreading the disease to different continents 😉

Hey Anisa,

Would be keen to chat about this!  Marc Cosentino wrote something interesting for our blog here - https://thecambridgeconsultant.com/coronavirus-will-your-consulting-offer-stand/
